Article sheds light on growing problems for traditional retail florists

"Neither the wire services nor many of the third-party businesses are florists. Instead, they gather orders that are funneled to local florists in exchange for a cut of the order." says the Associated Press article.  Read the entire article below, plus comments from a retail florist in New Hampshire.

Valerie in NH shares her thoughts on the above article:

Has Jennifer Sparks just said that "order gatherers" create more awareness, which translates into more business for florists? Then why are retail florists' sales decreasing?

Is SAF implying that order gatherers and other outlets "create more flower buyers"? I think one might argue that these types of business are taking buyers away from traditional florists!

Is SAF supporting the idea of these third-party companies? What can we do?

PLEASE let's not let this stop here - is SAF really supporting their retail florist members?

How about FTD and Teleflora - supporting their members?
